Research leadership
JPB was the main force in building the occupational health research team at the Department of Occupational health at Århus sygehus with research spanning a broad spectrum of occupational health. He has experience as leader and chair of large national and international epidemiologic research projects since 1993. He initiated a Danish collaborative prospective project addressing determinants of couple fertility that has been widely published in high-ranking journals as The Lancet and British Medical Journal. JPB coordinated several EU funded multidisciplinary projects with partners from up to 8 countries and centres throughout Europe. Thus he chaired the project management group of a European Concerted Action on Occupational Hazards to male reproductive capability 1993-1997 [The Asclepios project] Since 2002 he was international coordinator of the INUENDO project investigating the impact of persistent organochlorines on human fertility and since 2008 coordinator of the CLEAR project addressing climate changes and human reproductive health. In parallel he has past 5-10 years increasingly been involved in research addressing psychosocial stressors in the workplace and was one of the first to perform epidemiological studies on occupational risk of major depression.
