N K Lohiya

Formerly Head of the Department, Director – PG School of Life Sciences, Coordinator-UGC-SAP/CAS/COSIST; DST-FIST and Member – Syndicate is the Fellow of National Academy of Sciences, India, National Academy of Medical Sciences and Indian Academy of Environmental Sciences. He is member of Scientific Advisory Committees, Task Forces / Project Review Groups, Editorial Board of Journals, Executive Committee of Academic Societies, Indo-US joint working group, Wellcome Trust-DBT India Intermediate and Senior Fellowships Selection Committee.
The first to identify the combination therapy for male contraception using an antiandrogen, cyproterone acetate and the androgen, testosterone enanthate; demonstrated non-invasive reversible vas occlusion using the polymer Styrene Maleic Anhydride in langur monkeys; identifying seed products of Carica papaya as orally effective, reversible male contraceptive. Handled major research projects funded by UGC (8), ICMR (10), DBT (1) and MHFW (3) etc. and conducting phase III clinical trials on ‘RISUG®-an intra-vasal injectable contraceptive’ at Jaipur.
Prof. Lohiya has participated in several national (115) and international (46) conferences and delivered key note addresses, invited lectures and chaired/co-chaired scientific sessions.
Prof. Lohiya is recipient of Career Award, Nahar Sanman Puraskar, ISHEER Award, Labhsetwar Award, Scroll of Honour Award and Founder President Dr. T. C. Anand Kumar (Gold Medal) Oration Award for his outstanding research contributions in the field of contraception and reproductive health. He has supervised 31 Ph.D. students and 10 scholars are currently working. Published 168 research papers and chapters in books / conference proceedings of international repute.
Prof. Lohiya is the President of the Indian Society for the Study of Reproduction & Fertility (ISSRF) and presently working as an Emeritus Medical Scientist.
