Academic qualifications:
• Matriculation: Oude Molen Technical High School, Pinelands, Cape Town.
• BSc.Agric University of Stellenbosch (1970).
• Hons.BSc in Medical Sciences in Cytogentics, University of Stellenbosch (1972).
• MSc in Medical Sciences in Cytogentics. Thesis: Influences of chromosomal aberrations on spermatogenesis, University of Stellenbosch (1980).
• PhD in Medical Sciences (Cytology/Andrology). Dissertation: Investigation of the effects of environmental influences on spermatogenesis and semen parameters, University of Stellenbosch (1987).

Current position:
Professor and Specialist Scientist and Director of the Andrology Laboratory, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Tygerberg Academic Hospital and University of Stellenbosch, Tygerberg (Cape Town), South Africa.

Special appointments:
Extraordinary Professor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, School of Health Sciences, University of Stellenbosch.

Professional activities:
• Coordinator for the Special Interest Group – Andrology (SIG-A) of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) from 2008 to 2011.
• Member ESHRE SIG Andrology subcommittee for EQC program for semen analyses.
• Member ESHRE SIG Andrology training subcommittee.
• Presenter/Co-presenter of several National and International WHO Basic Semen Analysis Courses, ESHRE Basic Semen Analysis Courses and other Basic Semen Analysis and Strict Sperm Morphology Evaluation Courses on National and International level.
• Reviewer for grant applications/standard Generating bodies for several South African statutory bodies.
• Reviewer for several South African and International peer reviewed journals, including Human Reproduction, Fertility and Sterility, Int J Andrology, Andrology, Asian J Androl and others.
