Yong-Lian Zhang

The member of Chinese Academy of Sciences Yong-Lian Zhang, Principle Research Investigator, Female, Born in 1935 March at Shanghai, Graduated from Department of Chemistry, FU-Dan University in 1957. She has been working in the Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry since graduation, first engaged in the radiobiology research for 20 years to study radiation induced biochemical changes for the early diagnosis and the screening of potential drugs for protection from and cure radiation injury. Starting from 1978, she shifted her research interests to the sex hormone actions. She went to the Molecular Endocrinology Lab, Imperial Cancer Research Fund in London to refresh her knowledge and techniques in studying the regulation mechanisms of gene expression for two years. Since 1985, she carried out studies on the androgen regulation of the rat PSBP genes transcription in her home lab and got some progresses in this particular field (see lab introduction). Now, she is quite active in the molecular endocrinology and reproductive biology and have a serious of collaborations abroad. She won the first class Natural Sciences Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1993 and the National third class award in Natural Sciences in 1997 and the honor of the model worker of the Shanghai city in 1994, ranking one of the 1995 top ten women in Shanghai, the 1997 top ten female scientific researchers in Shanghai.
