Dr Iwan Lewis-Jones is Senior Lecturer in the University Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Liverpool Women's NHS Foundation Trust and Honorary Consultant Clinical Andrologist for the Trust.
He is also currently Chairman of the British Andrology Society. His research interests include sperm transport, sperm function, sperm autoimmunity, embryo implantation and the effect of micromanipulation on assisted conception results.

Teaching:
Present: (1) Teaching to 4th and 5th Year Medical Students in subjects related to the Anatomy of the Genito-Urinary Systems and Infertility; (2) Teaching to Post-Graduates on the Diploma of Veneriology course; (3) Teaching to Honours BSC Anatomy Students on the Genito-Urinary System; (4) Teaching on the Mastership and MRCOG courses.
Past:
Course organiser for the Anatomy 2nd MB Part I and II courses for medical students in their first year (160 students) and second year (160 students). I was responsible for the organisation of the lecture course, the tutorial system the practical dissection classes, video-tape demonstrations and the examinations.
Course organiser for the Anatomy 2nd BDS course for dental students in their first year (60 students) and their second year (60 students) for the 2nd BDS examination.
I was a topic organiser in teaching histology and cell biology to medical and dental students from 1987 and I have prepared a detailed schedule of lectures, practicals and self-assessments related to the reproductive tract.

RESEARCH INTO SPERM MORPHOLOGY & MORPHOMETRY
Methods of assessing morphology; Predicting fertility using IVF model; Size & shape distribution of fertile & infertile sperm samples; Links with genetics and genetic mutations.
RESEARCH INTO GENETICS OF MALE INFERTILITY

Future Targeting of Research
This group will over the next five years target most of its research resources into: (1) The immunobiology of fertilisation and implantation. (2) The immunobiology of early fetal development. (3) The development of the immune system in the human reproductive organs. (4) Sperm auto-immunity and Sperm Function.
