Teaching Experience
1. I have been working as Professor in Pondicherry University since September 1997 and was Reader since October 1988. I helped the School in organizing teaching and research programmes and introduced several new courses at M.Sc. and M.Phil. levels. Offered courses in Biochemistry, Instrumentation, Intermediary Metabolism, Research Methodology, Bioinformatics, Reproductive Endocrinology, Molecular Endocrinology and Biotechnology. I am currently offering some of these courses under Choice Based Credit System.
2. I was Lecturer in Zoology, Kurukshetra University (February 1982 - October 1988). Taught Biochemistry, Physiology, Reproductive Physiology, Research Methodology and General Zoology to M.Sc. and M.Phil classes. Total teaching experience at Postgraduate level is over 28 years.

Research experience
1. Research experience since July 1976. Title of the Ph.D. thesis is "Functional Study of Steroidogenic Activity in Testis". Total research experience is about 34 years.
2. I have experience of successfully guiding several M. Phil. and doctoral dissertations. At present I am guiding 6 Ph.D. candidates.
3. Many of my papers have been published in high impact journals. A few of my papers have been credited to be among the top twenty cited papers in the Asian Journal of Andrology. My papers have been cited in reputed international journals including Nature.
4. Successfully completed an ICMR training course on ‘Hormone Assays’ and a WHO/ICMR Workshop on ‘Immunofluorescence’ conducted by Dr. Senga Whittingham (Australia) at the Institute for Research in Reproduction, Bombay and participated in a workshop on ‘Protein and enzyme purification and kinetics’ at the University of Delhi, Delhi.

Other extra-mural projects
1. I have been able to generate about Rs. 2.5 crore from the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India (DBT) for the establishment and continuance of the Centre for Bioinformatics (1991-continuing) and for Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Bioinformatics programme (2001-2008). In addition I could get the DBT also fund many teaching and technical positions.
2. I got a grant of Rs. 25 lakhs plus faculty from the UGC for starting M.Sc. course in Bioinformatics under the Innovative Programme- Teaching & Research in Interdisciplinary & Emerging Areas.
3. I got Centre of Excellence for Bioinformatics Teaching, Research and Training set up at Pondicherry University by the Department of Information Technology, MICT, Govt. of India. The funding support is to the tune of Rs. 3.69 crore for five years (2007-2012).
4. Received Rs. 1.1 crore for “Network Program on Higher Education in Biïinformatics” from the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India for starting M.Sc. Computational Biology course. The unique teaching program will be jointly organized by Pondicherry University, Madurai Kamaraj University and Anna University.

Projects completed
1. Research project on” Evaluation of oxidative stress in inducing sub-fertility in male rats by environmental contaminants” from the Departíent of Science & Technology, Government of India (Rs. 16 lakhs), 2002-06.
2. National Biodiversity Strategy & Action Plan (NBSAP), U.T. of Pondicherry, funded by UNDP-GEF through the Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India (2000-2002).
3. Completed projects on some newly discovered testicular proteins received from the Population Council, New York (US $ 27,000) to work on some newly discovered testicular proteins (1988-90; 1999-2000).
4. Received grants from funding agencies like DST, CSIR, UGC, ICMR, DBT and Lady Tata Trust towards my research activities in the form of research projects and student fellowships.

Administrative Experience
1. Centre Head of the Centre for Bioinformatics since its inception in 1991. The Centre has now developed into a Centre of Excellence (MCIT) and offers various teaching programmes. The Centre has also received funding from the U.G.C. under its Innovative Programme. Total administrative experience is around 20 years.
2. Head of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (Nov. 2004- Jan. 2007; Feb. 2009-continuing). Also acted as Head i/c of the Department of Biological Sciences, School of Life Sciences, Pondicherry University for various periods (July 2000-July 2001, November/ December 2001, August-October 2002, September-October, 2003, and June-August 2004).
3. I am Coordinator of the Study India Programme (SIP) since its launch in Pondicherry University in 2000. About 70 students from U.S.A., France and Germany spent a semester each in Pondicherry University on credit transfer basis.

Contribution to teaching/ academic environment/ institutional/ corporate life
1. I have developed and strengthened various teaching programs. I was responsible for planning and organization of Bioinformatics Centre funded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India as its Coordinator since 1991. The Centre became a full-fledged national facility in 2004. The Centre has become a Centre for Excellence in Bioinformatics of the Department of Information Technology (DIT), Govt. of India.
2. The Centre offered Advanced PG Diploma in Bioinformatics with the support of DBT. It had also offered PG Diploma in Bioinformatics at Community College, Pondicherry University.
3. The Centre is offering M.Sc. (Bioinformatics) course sanctioned by the U.G.C. under Innovative Programme- Teaching & Research in Interdisciplinary & Emerging Areas.
4. The Centre is offering flexible modular courses in Bioinformatics leading to a PG Diploma.
5. The Centre has been sanctioned “Network Program on Higher Education in Bioinformatics” from the DBT for starting M.Sc. Computational Biology course. The teaching program will be organized by Pondicherry University, Madurai Kamaraj University and Anna University.
6. I initiated proposals for getting internet connectivity for the whole University through procurement of Micro-Earth Station from the DBT and subsequently by up-gradation of the facility through the Software Technology Park of India. Now a separate 8 Mbps connectivity has been obtained for Bioinformatics Centre.
7. I took initiative in the development of website, domain name registration and hosting of web-pages of Pondicherry University. I have coordinated hosting on the website (2000-07).
8. I have initiated and coordinated the “Study India Programme” in which foreign students visit our University for a semester or two. I have been nominated as Coordinator of PIHEAD programme of the U.G.C. in Pondicherry University.
9. I got two endowments from U.S.A. for instituting two gold medals in Pondicherry University.
10. I have organized lectures of several Indian and foreign scientists in Pondicherry University.
11. I have been serving/ served on various academic committees of the University such as Court, Academic Council, Boards of Studies, Programme Committees, Library Committee, etc.

Funds generated at Pondicherry University
1. I could generate about Rs. 8 crore from various funding agencies towards research projects in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and support to Bioinformatics Centre. The Department of Biotechnology, Government of India (DBT) funded Advanced Diploma in Bioinformatics programme, traineeships and the Network Teaching Programme. The DBT also funded many teaching and technical positions. The U.G.C. funded M.Sc. Teaching programme.
2. I was responsible for defending proposal for FIST-2002 support for the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and getting a grant of Rs. 35 lakhs. The support helped the department in modernizing its infrastructure. Subsequently I got Rs. 70 lakhs sanctioned for FIST-2009.
3. I have helped the University in generating more than Rs. 1 crore through Semester in India Programme as its Coordinator.
