Shahriar Koochekpour

Shahriar Koochekpour, MD, PhD, earned his MD from Shiraz Medical School in Shiraz, Iran in 1990, and his PhD in Experimental Neuro-Oncology from the Kings College School of Medicine in London in 1995. He is an Assistant Professor of Urology, and his research has brought national attention to the role of the protein prosaposin in prostate cancer biology. In early 2010, he discovered a novel mutation that can be inherited by African American men with a family history of prostate cancer and which may provide a clue as to why this disease is so much more aggressive and deadly in African American men than in Caucasians.
